I've moved!

After a few hours of googling and html'ing, I've managed to move my blog over to Wordpress (boo you traitor, I know)!! I'm now here - hannahasalways.wordpress.com  I'm still getting to grips with Wordpress and don't really know how to use it! eek help!

I'm a bad human being

Well long time no see. After writing a Sociology essay about Functionalism Families, I've had a massive breakthrough (again, I know). Just realised that I haven't blogged since June! That's awful! I'm so so so ashamed of myself! Eventhough I've just started Sixth Form and doing my A Levels, I'm going to try my hardest to try blogging again. Don't mark my words, but I'll try to post at least twice a week!

Once again, I'm so sorry to anyone who's been reading, and sorry to myself -sniffs-...

Quick Benefit Porefessional Review

Benefit Porefessional Full Size £24.50
If I'm honest, this product isn't a stand out to me. The consistency of this is very balm like and sinks into the skin very quickly. I've found that you don't need much and a little goes a long way! I've been using this on my nose, forehead and under my eyes to prime. Admittedly it does slightly minimise the pores on my nose, but not majorly. It's a lovely product and I will use up the sample, but I'm not sure I'd repurchase it. I've been looking for a great primer, and I still haven't found one! If you know any stand out primers, please let me know in the comments! Also, the length of time my makeup stays on my face isn't increased with the use of this product- I can definitely apply my makeup without it and not miss it!

Bit of a let down for such a raved about product.

Mac Lipstick Collection

All Mac Lipsticks £15.
From L-R, Peach Blossom, Pure Zen, Vegas Volt, Crosswires
My Mac Lipstick Collection is slowly growing and I'm loving it! In order of purchase, my first was Pure Zen, Peach Blossom, Crosswires then Vegas Volt (you can see I've got increasingly braver as I have bought them!). All of the lipsticks, except Vegas Volt which is an Amplified finish, are Cremesheen finishes. This means that they glide on the lips but don't neccessarily wear for very well. In my experience, Pure Zen and Peach Blossom don't wear for long, especially if you're eating/drinking. But Crosswires is more durable on the lips as it is a bolder colour- I'd say around 3 hours. Vegas Volt, Amplified finish, lasts for ages on the lips and is very creamy. It is definitely my 'go to' colour this summer as it compliments my olive skin tone perfectly!

On my wishlist for Mac Lipsticks I have: Girl about Town, Lady Danger, Morange, Impassioned and Pink Plaid. What do you think? Which Mac Lipsticks are your favourite?

Pastel Flower Nails

This cute design is incredibly easy and anyone can do it! Paint your thumb, middle and little fingers in any pastel colours of your choice- I chose Models Own Blooboo, and Barry M Strawberry and Berry Ice Cream. For your remaining nails, leave them transparent and paint pastel flowers using a dotting tool/cocktail stick- I used Models Own Lemon Meringue, Barry M Peach Melba and Berry Ice Cream. Inside the flowers, place a small dot of gold polish- mine is from Models Own. At the base of your pastel nails, paint white flowers with a gold dot. Repeat this on the other hand in different colours with alternating fingers.

Easy!

Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner

Soap & Glory Supercat Eyeliner £6
I am in love with this eyeliner! It is the only liquid eyeliner I've used that remains black all day and doesn't fade. It doesn't smudge and fall down your face if you sweat, however it is easily removed instantly if you make a mistake. The formulation is smooth and glides onto the lid- in contrast to the Barry M Blink eyeliner. When holding the pen, it is slightly weighted which makes me think that there is a hefty amount in the product. I now can't live without this product as I wear liquid eyeliner everyday. It is a definite improvement from my Barry M Wink and Blink eyeliners which I've been using for around a year.

Definitely the best liquid eyeliner I have come across!

Pink Smokey Eye

I got bored whilst studying for English today so I decided to have a play around with my makeup and use some of my older products. I am over the moon with how this turned out and I may wear it for my Leavers Assembly in June! I love how it is a girly twist on a smokey eye by having the shimmery pink base, and it is so simple to do!

Products used:

Eyes- Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold all over the lid, Sleek Noir buffed into the outer corner and crease, Sleek Organza over the top of the pink shimmer, Sleek Bow in the inner corners (entire Sleek palette review here). Soap and Glory Supercat eyeliner, Rimmel Scandaleyes Lycra Flex Mascara. Brows filled with Sleek Boxed and Maybelline Brow Drama.

Face- Bourjois Healthy Mix in Light Vanilla, Rimmel Stay Matte powder in Peach glow on my T zone. Sleek face form palette in light (review here)- bronzer on my temples and in the hollows of my cheeks, highlighter on my cheek bones, nose, cupids bow, chin and centre of my forehead, blush on the apples of my cheeks.

Lips- Mac Pure Zen

I hope you enjoyed this look as much as I did!

Bourjois Healthy Mix

Bourjois Healthy Mix in Light Vanilla £9.99
This foundation is the only product that suits my awkward skin tone! It has a velvet texture, is dewy on the face which makes you look full of life and has a gorgeous fruity scent. It doesn't look cakey on my face at all and blends with ease using my Real Techniques Expert Face Brush. It has medium coverage on me but can be built up to a higher coverage if neccessary. I've been using this with the benefit porefessional and they work together seamlessly! This foundation does cover up my blemishes but doesn't conceal them. I think that if you had flawless skin to begin with, this serum would further enhance that and your skin would look glowy and youthful.

The finish of the foundation is slightly dewy which means you get a healthy glow. If you don't like the dewy look, this can easily be removed by adding a matte powder over the top. Personally, I powder my forehead, chin and nose and leave my cheeks naturally glowy so I don't have to use as much highlighter. All in all- I love this product and I am amazed that I hadn't picked it up yet!

Mac Lipstick - Vegas Volt

Mac Vegas Volt- £15
The picture really doesn't do this lipstick justice! In the bullet it looks like a hot orange toned coral and it looks more orangey on my lips. This is the first Amplified finish lipstick I have bought and I am absolutely over the moon with it! The formulation isn't drying at all and stays on the lips for up to 5 hours. However, I find it does cling a little bit to the drier areas of my lips and can look a bit chunky if I have peeling lips. Without further a do, let me show you a swatch on my lips:

On lips swatch
Again, the picture doesn't do this lipstick justice at all! In reality, the lipstick looks more orange toned and brighter. I think that the colour really stands out with my hair and suits my skin tone to a T. The durability of this finish is simply stunning and stays on your lips even if you have eaten and drank. I now really love the Amplified finish a lot more than the cremesheen finish and I would like to try some others in the range- if you have any recommendations, please leave me a comment!

Sunflower Hair Accessory

Sunflower hair band Primark £2
I love this hair scrunchie from Primark! So cheap and cheerful and an awesome way to brighten up an outfit. I've been wearing it with an all black outfit (sheer vest, fluffy cardigan and black leggins) to add a pop of colour.

Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Elusive

Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Elusive £7.99
This is the first Colour Burst balm that I've tried from Revlon- I've previously tried the MUA and Bourjois ones but they weren't a matte finish. As you may have seen in a previous post, im a matte lips girl rather than a glossy lips girl, so I'm so happy that Revlon released a matte version of the balms. The balm itself looks quite chalky upon application but isn't drying at all, it is very creamy and moisturising. Personally, I like how it looks semi chalky as it looks more matte- the pigmentation is fantastic. The smell of the product is the usual mintiness you'd expect from a balm- not too strong and doesn't make your lips tingle.

How much product is in the tube
Above you can see how much product there is in the tube, and there is a generous amount considering that you don't need much to complete an opaque coat on your lips- this'll last ages! The colour reminds me of Sleeks Matte Me in Petal mixed with Rimmel Apocalips in Celestial (I appear to have a strong colour scheme).

On lips swatch (note how perfect my makeup looks here...proud)
The only negative I have is that after a while, it can create a slightly white/baby pink ring around the inside of your lips where it is more moist than the product on your lips. This is easy to scratch away and looks perfect again.

Definitely want to try more of the collection!

I've Found my Holy Grail!

Recently I've purchased some highly raved about products which have proved their excellence to me. These products all work perfectly together to produce the most flawless makeup I have ever done on myself!
These products are:

  • Bourjois Healthy Mix in Light Vanilla
  • Rimmel Stay Matte Powder in Peach Glow
  • Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in Medium
  • Maybelline Brow Drama
  • Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Lycra Mascara
  • Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Elusive
Together, they mix to make the perfect and flawless coverage and I am so happy that I have finally found makeup that works for me! I'd recommend any of these products to anyone as they are super cheap and can all be found on the British Highstreet (and some abroad).

Cleaning Makeup Brushes

There are many different ways to clean your brushes and some are more popular than others. I have tried washing them with baby shampoo but it doesn't seem to work for me, so I use ordinary shampoo.

Firstly, I rinse my brushes under luke warm running water, then pour a tiny amount of Tresemme Thermal Shampoo (any Tresemme shampoo works I find) into my palm and swirl the brush around in it a few times then rinse. This works really quickly and removes all of the residue on my brushes. Afterwards, I leave my brushes laying down (never leave your brushes to dry upwards as the water soaks through the besel and the glue becomes saturated) on a towel and leave them overnight.

My brushes in the picture are the Real Techniques Blush and Expert Face Brush and a combination of Bundle Monster Brushes that don't have names.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water £4.99
I think I've just found heaven in a bottle! Plus I got it on sale! This product is honestly my new baby and essential in my everyday routine. After being a makeup wipe user for years, I transferred to a micellar water user; thank goodness! I found that I have been breaking out a lot recently due to my efforts of clearing my skin before prom- which isn't working at all. I have been advised by my doctor to only use this product on my skin as it's for sensitive skin.

This product is a gentle makeup remover that also cleanses the face at the same time, also it doesn't need rinsing off afterwards! I have found that when I pour the solution onto a cotton pad, little product is needed to fully saturate the pad (eventhough I get a bit happy with the pouring...) which is good as the 400ml you receive doesn't get wasted. You can even use this solution on your lips which I thought was odd, but there is no greasy residue left on your lips and it is tasteless. This Micellar water has been compared to the standard of Bioderma but much cheaper which I cannot comment on as I have never used Bioderma. Nevertheless, it is fantastic quality and removes makeup with ease and doesn't require much rubbing (therefore not causing irritation). I have also found that my skin is brighter in complexion across my cheek bones and nose which is also a positive!

All in all, I am now in love with this Micellar Water and I'd recommend it to anyone!

Mac - Marge The Simpsons Collection Fall 2014

Last week on twitter, Mac announced a new collection to be released in the Fall based on Marge Simpson. The limited edition collection is to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Simpsons. No details about the products and colour range have been released yet- but expect bright, animated colours and maybe an electric blue lip gloss. I'm so excited about this collection and will keep you posted if any details are released.

L'Oreal Colour Riche in Cheryl's Nude

L'Oreal Colour Riche in Cheryl's Nude £8.19
I can't believe I haven't done a post on this lipstick yet! I bought this lipstick back in March and I haven't written about it yet, which is odd as it's my favourite lipstick! The bullet looks more pink in the picture when in fact it is more of a browny nude in person, the perfect 'my lips but better colour'. You can see a post where I'm wearing it here. I have found (thanks to Velvetgh0st) that this lipstick looks perfect topped with Revlon Colour Burst lip gloss in Peony and it looks natural but still glossy. The formula of the lipstick is very smooth and creamy (creamier than the Mac Creamsheen I'd say) and is very buildable according to your taste. Also, I love the smell of this lipstick, it smells to me of makeup wipes and sweeties (not selling it am I haha!). The only negative I have to say is how long the lipstick lasts. If you're drinking/eating, then it will wipe off straight away, also it wears away quite quickly during a normal day through licking your lips. I'd say re-application every 2 hours or so (hence why mine is nearly empty!).

Definitely my firm favourite!

Boots Haul

Bourjois Healthy Mix in Light Vanilla £9.99
Soap and Glory Supercat Eyeliner £6
Revlon Colour Burst Matte Balm in Elusive £7.99
Ordinarily, the combination of these products (all recommended to me by youtubers) would total £23.98, but thankfully Boots had a 3 for 2 sale on, and I had a £5 off voucher! So I only paid £12.98 for these 'more on the expensive side' drugstore products which I feel I will fall in love with!

Having a Retro Moment

I got over excited about my new sunglasses so I decided to include them in a post! My glasses were only £1.59 with free shipping from China on eBay (exact ones here), they arrived in around 1 and a half weeks which is reasonable delivery from China! I particularly love them because they look like the glasses they wear in Wicked- I'm an utter Wicked fangirl, it's an obsession. The lipstick I'm wearing is Soap & Glory FabuLipstick in Blush Pink which looks more purple toned in person, and I have Models Own Banana Split on my nails.

Sleek Blush by 3 in Pumpkin

Sleek Blush by 3 in Pumpkin £9.99

P Pie, Squash, Lantern £9.99
Well this review has been a long time coming! I bought this product in November along with Sleek Face Form and i-Divine in Oh So Special yet I hadn't fully tried it till recently. This trio contains 3 highly pigmented blushes: one shimmery, one pearl and one matte. I still haven't found a use for Lantern (the orange shade) as I don't think it suits my skin tone well at all! However, I have used P Pie (the red shade) in my Zombie Makeup post (here) and I love it! I have found that these blushes are easy to blend out and you don't need alot of product due to the pigmentation. I think these blushes are definitely for summer and aren't for the faint hearted- I'll stick to my everyday blush of Rose Gold-Sleek (Nars- Orgasm dupe) for the time being.

Mac Lipstick - Crosswires

Mac Crosswires £15
Well here it is- the third addition to my Mac lipstick collection (it is slowly growing...tediously). After spending a whole night humming and harr-ing over which lipstick to get (it's a long process), I had a sort of epiphany and decided that I wanted a brighter lipstick in my collection. Thus, Crosswires (Cremesheen) was bought. In the bullet, the colour looks more corally and sheeny whereas it looks brighter on my lips.

'On lips' swatch
I actually think this is the first image on the blog taken at this angle! As you can see, the colour looks more yellow toned on the lips than it is in the bullet. This isn't neccessarily a bad point, but it isn't to be expected.Sadly, I feel that this colour looks better on more olive skin tones than it does on my pale complexion- maybe I can try this again in the summer! On the other hand, this lipstick has made me braver in looking for brighter lipsticks for the summer season. I'm thinking that blue toned colours suit me more so I want to try Mac's Lady Danger, Girl about Town and Morange- what do you think? Admittedly, it looks like the colour has a frost finish in the image above yet it doesn't in person. I have found that this particular shade lasts alot longer on the lips than my other Cremesheen lipsticks; maybe that's because it is a bolder colour? Also, this is the only Cremesheen that I have that gets stuck on my teeth during the day (not on application) which confuses me slightly.

I'm always interested in seeing what you have to say and how your comments can help me/other readers, so please comment and we can have a chit chat!

I'm going to Tunisia!

This summer, for the first time, I am going on a plane and actually staying in a hotel! For the past 8 years, I have been to France in the caravan and it has got too tedious. After years of persuasion, I have managed to sway my dad into going on a 'proper holiday', as I like to call it. In the image above, you can see the hotel we are staying in- it is called Sentido Rosa Beach and it's in a beach-side city of Tunisia called Skanes, Sousse. For all you people, like my brother, who don't know where Tunisia is, it's on the north coast of Africa bordering Algeria and Libya. You can see below, the town we are staying in.

On first glance, the city looks quite run down but I think that's due to the sandy colours of the buildings, not sure! I have a massive dream to go parasailng so that's definitely on the list! I will be leaving on the 1st of August (which is in less than 100 days now!) after I have my prom and leave school.  Just after I come back, I will be getting my GCSE results then doing a skydive! Terrifying, I know! But I am seriously so excited to finally get on a plane and get out of the continent for a change! Oh and to also have some hot weather and burn my pale british skin!

Have any of you been to Tunisia before?

Maybelline Brow Drama

Maybelline Brow Drama £4.99
If you haven't realised from my previous posts, or see the delightful image of myself on the right>>>, I have truly unruly and bushy eyebrows. So in order to tame them I purchased the highly raved about Brow Drama. The wand on this product has a spherical end to it with an ordinary brush behind it which allows you to weave through your brows in a smooth motion whilst still getting enough product onto your brows. As soon as you apply the mascara, you eyebrows look a bit greasy and shiny to start with, but this soon fades as the gel sets. The slight tint to the gel allows me to wear only this product on a day to day basis without filling my brows in- fantastic! The mascara holds place all day and is easily removable with an ordinary makeup remover. However, once or twice I have found a few of my brow hairs pluck out during removal as the product has become stuck to the root of the hair; I wouldn't personally worry about this or let it put you off this product as it isn't noticeable on my eyebrow and doesn't hurt at all! Definitely a new essential!

Zombie Themed Makeup

Soon, I am taking part in a Zombie VS Pirates Sponsored Walk with my Youth Group in order to raise money for a boy called Oliver who has Stone Man Syndrome. I am going as part of the Zombie team and today I practised my makeup for the event. Not very scary, I know, yet I was going for more of a 'gothic corpse wife of a zombie' look...how creative of me!

On my face I am wearing: Collection lasting perfection concealer, Maybelline Dream Matte mousse foundation, Rimmel Stay Matte powder, Sleek Face Form palette (the bronzer and highlighter) and Sleek Blush in P Pie.

On my eyes I am wearing: Maybelline Colour Tattoo in On and On Bronze, Sleek Oh So Special palette (Gift Basket, Celebrate, Boxed, Noir), Barry M liquid eyeliner Wink, Models Own black eyeliner pencil, Rimmel Scandaleyes Retro mascara.

On my lips I am wearing: Rimmel Kate Moss Matte 111 Kiss of Life.

I've been invited to a Mac Launch!

This afternoon while I was in my local Mac store, I got invited to the launch party of Mac's new aqua collection! The event is on the 30th of April (next week) and runs for 2 hours. Within these hours, I will have my hands set on the new aqua collection and have a chance to try the products. Also for an added bonus, the money that I spend on a ticket also allows me to spend the amount of money in store! So really, I'm going to the event for free and spending money in a Mac store as per usual! Fantastic!! I'll try and take pictures there if I can and I'll write a post next week! Also, as I'm from Norwich, Tanya Burr may be at this launch- even more exciting!!

PS: I've been told in my Mac store that Playland won't be released until June now in the UK as it has been pushed forwards!

Models Own Hyper Gel

Models Own Hyper Gel in Coral Glaze £5
I have always been a massive fan of Models Own polishes and most of my extensive nail polish collection is made up of Models Owns. As soon as I found out that the company was bringing out a line of gel polishes I got so excited! To make matters better, there was a coral in the collection (my favourite)! I soon snapped this baby up for the bargain price of £5 and I wasn't disappointed! The formula of this polish is no exception to the outstanding, smooth, gliding formula of any other Models Own polish, except that this one was extra shiny. After only 2 thin coats, this manicure was opaque! I even reckon that I could have got away with 1 normal coat of the polish to get a similar result, but the formula is in no way thick and gloopy. I didn't use a top coat with this manicure and it lasted for the whole week and a half that I had it on, and it didn't chip once! Amazing! Definitely recommend this collection and Models Own as a brand on the whole!

Makeup Decisions?

I've been thinking recently that I may persue a mini career in Makeup Artistry when I have finished college. I am eager to professionally find out how to apply makeup and do other people's makeup. Eventhough I am still in school and have many more years of education to go, I have always been interested in an extra Beauty therapy course whether it be Makeup Artistry or Nail Technician. Are any of you guys makeup artists? Give me a comment or an email, I'd love to talk to you!

Models Own Speckled Egg

Models Own Speckled Egg in Dove £5
Haven't Models Own been busy! Bringing out 3 new collections over 4 months! This is the second collection that the company have brought out over Easter, the Speckled Egg Collection. I primarily went into Boots to pick up Magpie (the mint green shade) but it was out of stock, no surprise- it was the most popular colour in the collection. So with help from my mum, I picked up Dove, the baby pink shade. As soon as I got home, I used this colour on my nails and was a little disappointed. I'm not sure if it was the shape of my nails, or the tone of my skin, but this colour just didn't suit me! However, the formula of this polish was no different to an ordinary Models Own polish yet it was a bit more gloopy. After only 3 days, I decided to remove this polish...which was a feat in itself. This polish is awful and pain in the neck to remove! After shredding my way through 2 cotton pads for each nail, I decided to soak my nails in remover and wrap them in tin foil- which resulted in me looking like a bit of an alien for half an hour. All in all, this polish is stunning but just doesn't suit me, which is really quite upsetting for a nail junkie like me.

What do you think?

Lipstick Collection

These lipsticks are the more natural and nude lipsticks in my collection. From left to right we have L'oreal Colour Riche in Cheryl's Nude, MUA Shade 11 Bare, Mac Pure Zen (post here), Mac Peach Blossom (post here), Revlon Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake and Sweet Tart. My most worn out of this selection would be the L'oreal Colour Riche as it has a flawless finish and is a 'my lips but better' colour and is of a Mac lipstick quality for only £8.99!

This is the more 'I will be brave and wear something a bit bolder on my lips' section of my collection (rarely worn out of the house because I'm a wimp!). From left to right we have Rimmel Kate Moss Matte in 111 Kiss of Life, Soap and Glory Matte in Blush Pink, Collection Seashell, Max Factor Pink Meringue, and No7 Gay Pink. I wear the Soap and Glory lipstick the most because I think it looks like Mac's Snob, and balances my dark hair out really well. The Rimmel is a close second as I love to think I can wear it out but I never do...so I just wear it around the house (glamorous...).

Which one is your favourite?

Mac Pure Zen £15 (post here)
Essie Bahama Mama £8.99
Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray £7.50 (post here)

Bourjois Happy Light Matte Primer

Bourjois Happy Light Matte Primer - £10.99
I've been using this primer for around 3 weeks now and it's the first primer I have ever used. Personally I haven't really realised that this product has made my makeup stay on longer, yet it mattifies my complexion very quickly. I use this product on my nose, chin, forehead and under my eyes as these are the more oilier areas and I want my makeup to stay in place in these areas. I have found that this serum dries very quickly so you have to work efficiently with it. I use around 1 and a half pumps to cover the areas I want to. The consistency of the serum is very smooth and doesn't get stuck in the pump- although, after every week of usage, a clog of product appears in the pump yet this is easily blendable into the original product. I also agree that it minimises pores yet I think that there are better products on the highstreet that are cheaper and worth the money.

I don't love this primer as much as I think I would have. However, I will finish the bottle and it is an addition to my makeup collection which has some benefits to mattifiying my complexion.

Sleek Matte Me VS Rimmel Apocalips

Sleek Matte me in the shade Petal - £4.99
Rimmel Apocalips in the shade Celestial - £5.99
See my individual reviews on the Apolcalips here, and Matte me here. I'll try and make this a short comparison as I have already written reviews on the two lip creams (see links). To be honest, the both products are really quite different! If you're looking for a glossy, thick, staining cream then go with the Apocalips; if you're looking for a matte, dry, smooth cream then go for the Matte me. Personally, I prefer the Matte me as I find matte lipsticks very drying to my flaky lips but this product fits the bill perfectly for me. The Apocalips isn't bad at all, it's just not my preference. If I want glossy lips, I'll use a lipstick- but this product will look stunning over lipstick, it depends what look you're going for.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Pink Gold

I already love these cream eyeshadow bases, so I thought I'd go out and buy another one! I own the bronze shimmery shade in 'On and On Bronze' currently and I was looking for a base to replace my daily eyeshadow- Sleek Organza (see review of the palette here). This base matches my Organza eyeshadow and will last me so much longer as there is alot more product here than in an eyeshadow pan. As always, the formulation of this base is extremely creamy, blend-able and long lasting. I find that it doesn't crease on your eyelid and is build-able with optional eyeshadows ontop of it. Definitely a firm favourite of mine!
